To recognise Mrs Mary Adams’ 50 years of continuous service to the Lower Machen Festival, a tree planting ceremony took place in the gardens of Machen House in late 2017.

Mrs Adams was a founder member of the Festival with Mr Colwyn Sillman, a music teacher at nearby Machen School who first suggested holding a music festival in the beautiful St Michael and All Angels’ church, Lower Machen.

The festival developed into one which regularly hosted performances from the worlds of music, literature and the arts, attracting world class performers of the very highest calibre.

Mrs Adams has continued to strongly support the event in many ways since 1967. She has hosted artists and dignitaries, and shared her wonderful gardens with audiences who attended performances at the church.

Mrs Adams was accompanied at the tree planting by Mr Nicholas Hale (former Committee Chairman), members of the committee and festival volunteers.
