Elin Manahan Thomas a Catrin Finch – dwy seren gyda’i gilydd
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Lower Machen Festival in 2017 – and to look forward to our next exciting phase in 2018 – we are delighted to present a very special Easter Saturday Celebrity Recital on 31 March 2018, at Rudry Parish Hall.
Soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and harpist Catrin Finch are among the most celebrated and popular Welsh artists to establish enviable international reputations in recent years. They share exuberant personalities, peerless standards in their respective fields and an excitingly refreshing approach to a wide-ranging repertoire. Rarely able to perform together in concert we are thrilled and delighted that they are coming together for this unique milestone Lower Machen Festival event.
We are privileged to use Rudry Parish Hall in Caerphilly for this special occasion. It is set in a beautiful rural location – yet within easy reach of Caerphilly, Newport and Cardiff. With a ravishing picture-window view, first-class facilities and ample parking Rudry Parish Hall can claim to be home to a new “Best-Kept-Secret” of a venue.
Elin and Catrin are preparing a bespoke and richly-varied programme ranging from the haunting lute-songs of Dowland and the Elizabethans to some specially arranged folk songs, Welsh favourites and plenty of light-hearted surprises!
To complement the central recital, audience members will also be treated to some tuneful madrigals and assorted songs from the Lower Machen Festival Chorale.
As we celebrate the joy of music together, we will also be launching the 2018 festival programme to be held at St Michael and All Angels’ Church and Rudry Parish Hall between 19 and 24 June.
We look forward to welcoming you when doors open at 6pm for a canapes and drinks reception. Tickets are limited so pre-booking is essential!
As organisers of the Lower Machen Festival 2018 we extend our strongest sympathy and support to harpist Catrin Finch as she prepares for breast cancer treatment over the coming months. We are pleased to say that Catrin remains committed to appearing with soprano Elin Manahan Thomas at our special launch concert at Rudry Parish Hall on Saturday 31 March.
We are also proud to announce that as the 2018 Lower Machen Festival Artist-in-Focus, Catrin has been invited to give the opening celebrity recital of the Festival at St Michael and All Angels’ Church, Lower Machen on Tuesday 19 June.
As her management has said, Catrin is upbeat in spirit and her forthcoming engagements will play an important role in her road to recovery. We extend to Catrin and her family all our love and support for the future and look forward to welcoming her to Rudry and Lower Machen very soon.
