Elin Manahan Thomas a Catrin Finch – dwy seren gyda’i gilydd
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Lower Machen Festival in 2017 – and to look forward to our next exciting phase in 2018 – we are delighted to have presented a very special Easter Saturday Celebrity Recital on 31 March 2018, at Rudry Parish Hall.
Soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and harpist Catrin Finch are among the most celebrated and popular Welsh artists to establish enviable international reputations in recent years. They share exuberant personalities, peerless standards in their respective fields and an excitingly refreshing approach to a wide-ranging repertoire. Rarely able to perform together in concert we are thrilled and delighted that they came together for this unique milestone Lower Machen Festival event.
We are privileged to have use Rudry Parish Hall in Caerphilly for this special occasion. It is set in a beautiful rural location – yet within easy reach of Caerphilly, Newport and Cardiff. With a ravishing picture-window view, first-class facilities and ample parking Rudry Parish Hall can claim to be home to a new “Best-Kept-Secret” of a venue.
Elin and Catrin performed a bespoke and richly-varied programme ranging from the haunting lute-songs of Dowland and the Elizabethans to some specially arranged folk songs, Welsh favourites and plenty of light-hearted surprises!
To complement the central recital, audience members were also treated to some tuneful madrigals and assorted songs from the Lower Machen Festival Chorale.
As we celebrated the joy of music together, we also launched the 2018 festival programme to be held at St Michael and All Angels’ Church and Rudry Parish Hall between 19 and 24 June. Details will be available on our website very soon.
